Ms Desiree Janice Govender

Ms Govender matriculated in 1995 and applied to study a BSc Degree at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (University of Durban Westville). After successfully completing her first year of study in BSc, Ms Govender decided on a career in Health Science, which was a more appropriate choice and thus began her illustrious Dental career. Ms Govender graduated as a Dental Therapist from the University of Durban Westville in 1999. As a student Desiree always had a passion to serve the community and has been actively involved in many outreach programmes. After successfully completing her bachelor of Dental Therapy Degree, Ms Govender was employed in the private sector for two years and later pursued private practice. Ms Govender has spent the past 20 years in private practice in the North coast of KZN in the town of Empangeni. Besides managing a successful Dental Therapy Practice, she has also been administrating and managing her husband’s occupational medical practice for the past 20 years. She has had ample opportunity to collaborate with participating schools in the Colgate Outreach Programme, providing basic Oral Hygiene Education and basic dental screening to rural schools surrounding Empangeni and Richard’s Bay for the past 15 years. With distinguished leadership skills, she has served as the deputy Chairperson of SADTA KZN from 2009 to 2010 and Chairperson from 2010 to 2013. Ms Govender was elected National General Secretary of SADTA from 2013 to 2018, and currently serves as the President of the association since February 2018.
